Around her gather the primal forces of the earth: lion, elephant, gorilla, crocodile, and a massive snake. She embodies organic consciousness, needing no artificial armor because she is life itself.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eThe Aesir (Technological Hubris):\u003c\/strong\u003e On the right side stands the man. He represents man, who plays at being a god. Behind him, his world rises: a technologically advanced megacity, fighter jets, and galleys. He wields a long staff, with which he tries to direct or subjugate the natural order.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe Battle of Symbols:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\nA bird of prey hovers in the air – observer or messenger – while on the ground, symbols of civilization (books, wheels) push into the flesh of nature (the snake). It is a war for supremacy on this planet.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe Precarious Balance:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\nThe composition shows enormous tension. The Vanir stands on a kind of narrow ridge or rope held by the man – a sign of how much modern technology believes it has nature in its hands, while simultaneously being dependent on its existence.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe Dominance of Stasis:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\nThe Vanir stands on the left side in almost statuesque calm on just one leg, comparable to the firm grace of a crane or stork. Despite this minimal standing surface, she appears absolutely unshakable and stable. In extreme contrast, the man on the right side has to exert his entire physical strength; he strains against her with both arms and full bodily effort.
