About 2701 Art Club

  • Torsten Martin Lehmann: Craftsmanship and Vision

I was born on January 27, 1974, in Pforzheim in the Northern Black Forest – a date that today defines the 2701 Art Club. My artistic development is deeply rooted in my family: As the grandson of the painter Martin Münzer, I received crucial early inspiration, which, with my mother's encouragement, became my calling.

In 1994, I began my apprenticeship in painting and decorating. During this time, I deepened my knowledge of techniques such as marbling, graining, fresco painting, and old master glazing techniques, which I later applied in the restoration of artistic works. Afterwards, I studied Fine Arts (teaching degree for grammar schools) at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe under Max Kaminski, as well as history at the University of Konstanz (teaching degree for grammar schools).

Since 1997, I have worked as a freelance artist, and since 2005, I have run my studio, Lehmanns Artefaktorium Papilio. I have achieved international recognition particularly in tattooing; my work has been published and awarded worldwide. This experience now flows into my free painting.

In addition to art, the welfare of the most vulnerable is close to my heart. I am involved in animal welfare, especially for wild animals and strays, demonstrating my deep connection to nature and life.

  • The 27.01 Art Club: A Naming

The name of the 2701 Art Club is a tribute to a special date on which different creative energies converge:

    • Music: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (*1756) represents timeless structure and harmony.
    • Fantasy & Logic: Lewis Carroll (*1832) created "Alice in Wonderland", a work spanning dream worlds and logic.
    • Craftsmanship: The birthday of club founder Torsten Martin Lehmann (*1974) symbolizes the fusion of these influences in painting and drawing.

This date is not a comparison of significance, but a conceptual anchor. It invites us to think about art across disciplines – as an interplay of sound, narrative, and brushstroke.

  • The Vision

The vision of the 2701 Art Club: Art as a foundation for change. The club is more than a gallery – it is a driving force for long-term commitment. The goal is to establish a foundation that provides support where help is most urgently needed.

Through the club's proceeds and synergies, we support projects in the areas of:

    • Human Rights & Justice
    • Animal Protection & Welfare
    • Environmental Protection & Preservation of Natural Habitats

We do not see art as an end in itself, but as a force that enables real improvements. Every member and every purchase of a work contributes to strengthening this foundation for a better world.
